Today’s search for a name for my project was rooted in Armenian words. The first option that I liked is based on the Armenian word ջարդ which can be transliterated as jard but is rather pronounced more like jart. That word serves as a root for the verb to break. As a name candidate for my project it emphasizes that one should be prepared to break his creation in order to improve it (when he hits a dead end with the current design). The not so good thing about ջարդ is that it also means crushing defeat and massacre.
Two other Armenian candidates were դարան and պարարտ. The former (daran) is something like a storage/repository, but it is more known as a second component of some compound words (e.g. գրադարան - library). This resonates with my intention to grow a solid knowledge management system as a part of my platform. Պարարտ (parart) means fertile and alludes to my platform serving as soil for engineering projects.
Then it occurred to me that an ambitious name has some drawbacks. Hardly the first version of my project will excel at everything. Most likely it will be a piece of junk that can only be used to create more junk. Why shouldn’t it be named junk, then? Especially that it (ջանք) means effort in Armenian. It allows for cute derivatives like junktion and junktory.
